Cabin Concerts
With Emmy award winning recording artist, Michael Monroe.

Monroe will be performing his original acoustic folk, reggae and jazz music on the Cabin Life Stage each day of the show. He blends his rich vocals, guitars, bamboo and crystal flutes together in a "live" performance without the use of anything pre-recorded. Monroe performs on Seaton Guitars, which are made from 200-year-old salvaged wood from the bottom of Lake Superior. Monroe's music is featured internationally on photographer Jim Brandenburg's "Chased By The Light" documentary and on PBS, for which he received several national awards. Monroe lives and records his music from his solar powered log cabin outside of Grand Marais on Minnesota's famous North Shore.

The Wood Joiners
The art of timber frame building with Michael Yaker, De Forest, WI

Come watch the wood chips fly at this timber framing demonstration at the Lake Home & Cabin Show. Using only an assortment of hand tools carpenter Michael Yaker takes us through the various construction processes that are at the heart and soul of timber frame building. Timber framing and "post-and-beam" construction is a general term for building with heavy timbers rather than "dimension lumber" such as 2"x4"s. Used throughout the world for thousands of years, traditional timber framing is the method of creating structures using heavy squared-off and carefully fitted and joined timbers with joints secured by large wooden pegs. The method comes from making things out of logs and tree trunks without modern high tech saws to cut lumber from the starting material stock. Woodjoiner demonstrations will be given several times each day at the Lake Home & Cabin Show.

Bag Toss
presented by Portable Outdoor Games

Bean bags are going to be flying through the air at the Lake Home & Cabin Show this year! "Bag Toss" is a very popular lawn or tailgating game and is a new special feature at the show. Kelly and Jim Loeffler of Reading, Michigan will be demonstrating and teaching anyone who wants to learn about this fun and easy to play game. They also will be selling bag toss kits which make a perfect addition to any lake home or cabin. Bag Toss (also known as corn toss baggo or cornhole) is a game in which players take turns throwing bags of corn at a sloped platform with a hole in the far end. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point. Play continues until a team or player reaches the score of 21. The history of the game is mostly unknown, though stories abound. One story claims that the game was first played during the 14th century in Germany, then rediscovered in Ohio within the last century. Whatever the history, there's nothing better than a warm summer afternoon at the cabin with family and friends, a favorite beverage in one hand and a bean bag in the other. It's time to play Bag Toss!
